Butter

BUTTER –
The concentrated
Essence of milk.

Butter –
Cherished and eaten
The world over.

Butter –
The stuff of lamps.
Offerings of my people.

Butter lamps –
Symbolic offerings
To dispel dark Ignorance.

Choe-me

CHOE-ME.
Butter lamps.
Offerings to
The enlightened
Deities above.

Choe-me.
Butter lamps.
Offerings from
Ignorant, suffering
Beings below.

May these symbolic offerings
Truly dispel the delusions
Of every sentient being.
Thus free from suffering
May they enjoy every happiness.

Light A Lamp …

LIGHT a lamp
With a pure heart
And total sincerity.
Thus be free of Ignorance.

Then be disciplined.
Caring and courageous.
Be truly joyous.
Be mindfully aware and free.

With Faith And Humility …

WITH faith and humility
Light a butter lamp.
Dispel the darkness
Of Ignorance and
Deluded states of mind.

With your warmth
And humanity
Cultivate bodhichitta,
Cherishing others
More than self.

With the Deities
Illuminated,
Be one with them
Pure and blissful,
Free of impure perception.

With openness
And clarity,
Be Aware
Seeing things
Just as they are – perfected.

Look Far Ahead

LOOK far ahead.

Take small steps.

Encompass all.

Fathom deeply.

Transform ordinariness.

Watch your mind

And be Aware and Free.

Waves Beating On Waves

WAVES beating
On waves.
Foam frothing
On the river’s surface.

Animals killing
Other animals
Merely to overcome
Hunger pangs.

Humans murdering
Humans en masse,
Letting blood
On Mother earth.

Blind acts following
Deluded minds.
No end
In sight.

When will humans
Ever realize
There’s more to life
Than violence.

When will
The blind Chinese
Heed the sane
Lama’s advice.

I’ve Heard My People say …

I’VE HEARD my people say
The nobility it was
That reduced us
To this, our sorry state.

I’ve heard my people say
The clergy it was
That reduced us
To this, our sorry state.

I’ve heard my people say
The Chinese it was
That reduced us
To this, our sorry state.

I’ve heard my people say
The Changing world it was
That reduced us
To this, our sorry state.

The truth’s all these and more.
Lost in our own worlds
We failed to cherish
Our jewel – our Independence.

Alas, while we were weak within
External circumstances ever present
Found an opportunity. Welcome entry.
Thus misery reigns for those unaware.

If you an ordinary Tibetan
Are content just to talk of the past,
Wish only to be goaded along in the present
And have no vision of freedom for the future

Then I’m afraid
We’ll continue to remain
In the continuum
Of this sorry state of affairs.

A Walk On An Autumn Morn.

A WALK on an autumn morn.
Passing strangers homeward bound.
Gujjars and buffalo herds
Trekking south to pastures warm.

A walk on an autumn morn.
Passing strangers homeward bound.
Gaddis and sheep. Newborns too.
Strolling south to Kangra’s greens.

A walk on an autumn morn.
Passing strangers homeward bound.
Buses plying passengers north.
Home to Zanskar and Spiti heights.

A walk on an autumn morn.
Passing strangers homeward bound.
For a homeless refugee these scenes
Bring home cheerless states most days.

Yet home is where the heart’s centred.
Heart is where the mind is alive.
Focussed in the present mode.
No hopes. No fears. Just aware.

Home is quiet. Home is warmth.
Home is bliss. Perfect freedom.
Home is Mind open and clear.
Aware and heart’s warmth radiating.

Chinese Patriotism

BREEDING dictators.
Grooming dictators.
Supporting dictators.
Chinese patriotism.

Colonising neighbours.
Exploiting neighbours.
Torturing neighbours.
Chinese patriotism.

Blind leaders.
Blind masses.
Blind allegiance.
Chinese patriotism.

One kingdom.
Only kingdom.
Middle kingdom.
Chinese patriotism.
